Call Of International Duty, Part II

Losses, injuries, boos from the own fans – life wasn’t easy for most Bayern internationals this Tuesday. Let’s start with the important matches.

Euro 2012 Qualification Group A: Turkey v Austria 2-0

If there’s a match in group A, chances are that at least one Bayern player is involved. In Istanbul, there were three of them: Hamit Altintop and Mehmet Ekici for the hosts, David Alaba for the Austrians. All three started and only Ekici was subbed off (after an hour). Turkey won the battle for the important 2nd place behind the all but qualified Germans, Arda Turan and Gökhan Gönül scored the goals for the Euro 2008 semifinalist.

Goals: 1-0 Arda Turan (28′), 2-0 Gökhan Gönül (78′)

Gönül – Cetin – Kesimal – Balta

Sahin – Inan

AltintopEkici – Turan

Maierhofer – Harnik

Alaba – Scharner – Dag

Fuchs – Pogatetz – Dragovic – Baumgartlinger

Euro 2012 Qualification Group A: Belgium v Azerbaijan 4-1

A match Belgium was expected to win and they did without many problems. Daniel van Buyten was the team’s captain for 80 minutes, then he had to be subbed off because of an injury that forces him to miss the next two weeks. An injury when your team is leading 4-1, it hardly gets any worse.

Goals: 1-0 Vertonghen (12′), 1-1 Abushov (16′), 2-1 Simons (32′), 3-1 Chadli (45′), 4-1 Vossen (74′)

Ciman – van Buyten – Lombaerts – Vertonghen

Simons – Defour

Chadli – Witsel – Dembele

Javadov – Aliyev

Mammadov – Amirguliyev – Chertoganov – Shurukov

Melikov – Abushev – Sadygov – Levin

McKay – Jedinak – Valeri – Emerton

Carney – Ognenovski – Neill – Wilkshire

Friendly: France v Croatia 0-0

Franck Ribery against Danijel Pranjic! Nope. Only the latter started and had to be replaced because of a (fortunately minor) injury before Ribery entered the pitch. A fair number of people in the Stade de France booed him when he was brought on but most quickly forgot about the doubts as Ribery was one of the better players in an all in all not breathtaking match. Highlights: Croatia’s keeper Runje injured, France’s defender Rami slightly injured when trying to score a last-minute overhead kick goal, France’s ugly sailor shirts.

Reveillere – Rami – Mexes – Clichy

Diarra – Nasri – Matuidi

Menez – Benzema – Malouda

Jelavic – Perisic

Kranjcar – Vukojevic – Simunic – Modric

Friendly: Ukraine v Italy 0-2

Good news: Anatoliy Tymoshchuk was team captain, wasn’t injured

Bad news: Ukraine lost, Tymo’s new haircut

Goals: 0-1 Rossi (27′), 0-2 Matri (81′)

Fedetskiy – Tymoshchuk – Rakytskiy – Oschipko

Stepanenko – Rotan

Gusev – Aliyev – Yarmolenko

Rossi – Gilardino

Nocerino – Montolivo – Marchisio

Criscito – Chiellini – Gastaldello – Maggio

After that bunch of more or less meaningful international matches, we’re back to domestic business with only Daniel van Buyten being injured. Danijel Pranjic, Mario Gomez and also Arjen Robben are fit and available for the match against Gladbach.
